1000 Stone Farm

A Vermont orchard.
Fermented with conviction.

1000 Stone Farm is a certified organic homestead farm tucked into the rocky, rolling hills of Brookfield, Vermont — twenty miles south of Montpelier at elevations between 1,400 and 1,700 feet. The terrain is demanding. The cider is better for it.

We grow over 60 apple varieties chosen specifically for fermentation — heritage English bittersweets alongside aromatic American varieties — and ferment on-site in oak barrels with minimal intervention. No concentrates, no shortcuts, no house style imposed on the fruit.

Volume One

The Foundation

Off-Dry · Barrel-Aged · Back-Sweetened

Our signature cider — the one that started it all. Fermented in neutral oak barrels and lightly back-sweetened with filtered fresh juice, Volume One sits at the intersection of complexity and approachability. Amber-golden, with aromas of ripe orchard fruit, vanilla, and a whisper of oak. The finish is soft, round, and endlessly drinkable.

Winesap · Kingston Black · Northern Spy

Three classic cider apples in precise conversation. Winesap brings bright acid and spice; Kingston Black contributes dark, tannic grip; Northern Spy opens with aromatic clarity. Fully dry, structurally deep — bracing, mineral, and long. For those who want the orchard's bones, undisguised.

The Heritage

Porter's Perfection · Ashmead's Kernel

Two of the great English cider varieties, grown in Vermont soil. Porter's Perfection brings muscular tannin and deep, complex mid-palate; Ashmead's Kernel layers nutty richness over crisp, lemony acid. A cider with old-world bones and new-world terroir — both bracing and profound.

Our most daring expression. Estate cider rested in gin barrels, picking up botanical complexity from juniper, coriander, and citrus peel. Dry and aromatic, with a clean spirit finish that lingers. Tomcat only comes around once a year — and it doesn't last long.

Our Story

A certified organic farm, a small-batch cidery, and a wood-fired kitchen — all rooted in the same Vermont hillside.

Our Story

A four-season farm
rooted in community

1000 Stone Farm is a certified organic homestead farm tucked into the rocky, rolling hills of Brookfield, Vermont — just north of the town's famous floating bridge on Sunset Lake, and twenty miles south of Montpelier.

What began as a commitment to growing clean, nourishing food has grown into one of Vermont's most integrated farm experiences. Today the farm produces vegetables, mushrooms, eggs, pastured meat, fruit, and small-batch cider — all within a single working landscape governed by regenerative practices designed to farm for the future.

That vision found a new home when The Farmers Hand Cider House & Kitchen opened in the farm's Blue Barn — a seasonal restaurant and tasting room where everything on your plate and in your glass traces back to this hillside in Brookfield.

Products reach neighbors and food lovers through the on-farm store, the Burlington Farmers Market, a robust CSA program, and local co-ops and restaurants across Vermont.

"One of our main goals for this new adventure is to feed the community food that we have grown & raised right here on our farm."
— Kyle Doda, 1000 Stone Farm

Our Philosophy

How We Farm & Ferment

01
Estate Fruit Only
Every bottle of Farmers Hand cider is made from apples grown in our orchard. No purchased juice, no concentrates. The fruit is ours, the cider is ours.
02
Minimal Intervention
We add minimal sulfites and let fermentation follow its natural arc. The goal is to preserve what the fruit brought in, not impose a house style upon it.
03
Oak Barrel Aging
All ciders are barrel-aged — in neutral oak, and occasionally in bourbon or gin barrels. Barrel work adds complexity and integration that tanks cannot replicate.
04
Certified Organic
The farm is certified organic. No synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers touch the land. Clean fruit makes clean cider.
05
Terroir-Driven
We farm at 1,400–1,700 feet in the Green Mountains. Cold winters slow everything down. The resulting cider carries the specific character of this hillside.
06
Community-Rooted
The farm serves the Brookfield community through its CSA, farmers markets, and the on-farm store. The cider is just one piece of a larger food ecosystem.

As Heard & Seen

"Kyle and Betsy bring the complete farm-to-ferment story. One of the most integrated cidery operations we've covered."
Vermont Public Radio
"Among the state's most compelling new cider producers — the orchard and the barrel program are both exceptional."
American Cider Association
"A textbook example of estate cidery practice in a cold-climate American terroir."
